Four teens arrested after attack on girl
FOUR teenagers have been arrested after footage of a ‘particularly nasty’ attack on a young girl in a Tameside park was widely shared on social media.
The 13-year-old victim ended up in hospital following the assault in Stamford Park, in Ashton-underLyne, on Friday afternoon.
Mobile phone footage shows her being dragged to the floor by her hair and repeatedly kicked in the head, shoulder and back.
Police say she suffered ‘extensive bruising’ and is now recovering at home.
GMP have confirmed four teenage girls – aged 13 and 14 as well as two 15-year-olds have been arrested on suspicion of assault.
They were quizzed by officers and have since been released under investigation.
Police are now urging people to stop sharing the video online.
Chf Insp Andy Harty of GMP’s Tameside Borough, said: “This investigation surrounds a particularly nasty attack that happened in broad daylight.
“It left a teenager with no option to defend herself so I’m sure we can all agree we want to get justice for her and her family.
“I cannot urge the importance of people refraining from sharing the video online and speculating about the identity of those in the video.
“It can be extremely unhelpful and could undermine the investigation. In the meantime, I want to thank the public for their patience as we continue with our enquiries into this awful attack and assure them we will provide updates when we can.”
