New restaurant to be ‘fast and fresh’

- By DAISY JACKSON

TAMPOPO is preparing to open another new restaurant in Manchester, this time focusing on fast, fresh food.

East Street will take over the old Rice site at Piccadilly Gardens, and will add an ‘on-the-go’ element to the flavoursome pan-Asian food Tampopo’s famed for.

Diners will be able to eat in at the new 56-seater restaurant (with 20 additional seats outside), or order and take away from the open kitchen.

Tampopo is a Manchester original, and has been serving East Asian food here for more than 20 years.

From its original site at Albert Square, the group has expanded to open restaurants in the Corn Exchange, the Trafford Centre, and London’s Fitzrovia.

This will be the group’s third East Street concept restaurant.

Dishes come from Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, Vietnam, and beyond, and include sharing platters, noodles and curries.

Tampopo’s many years on the festival circuit have helped the team to develop a menu that can be prepared and cooked quickly without compromising on quality.

Tampopo has provided street eats at Festival No. 6, Manchester Food and Drink Festival, Bluedot festival and Kendal Calling. This new opening will reflect the relaxed ‘grab and graze’ style of dining that you’ll find in the street markets and shopping centres of Bangkok and Singapore.

The building’s been redesigned in an industrial style, with added neon and a huge open kitchen. Outside, bosses are promising an East Asian pop of colour, which will no doubt brighten up Piccadilly Gardens. Prices will start from just £4.95 per dish, with all the dishes tailored for a faster dining experience. David Fox, Tampopo cofounder, said: “Earlier this David Fox, Tampopo co-founder year I visited Malaysia and Singapore, and arrived home bursting with ideas and inspiration from this ever-changing region.

“One thing that is constant is their love of food and of eating it on the go.

“I am bringing a little bit of this to Piccadilly Gardens.”

East Street will open on August 1, and will be open daily from 11am until 10pm.
