Woman flees Hilton ‘with slashed throat’
SIX ARRESTED AFTER DRAMA AT TOP HOTEL ON DEANSGATE IN CITY CENTRE
AN attack at a city centre hotel triggered a major response when a bleeding woman stumbled into the street and flagged down police.
Six people, including a 17-year-old girl, have been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder following the incident at the Hilton Manchester yesterday morning.
Emergency services were called to the scene on Deansgate just after 11am.
The victim – whose age has not yet been released – is understood to have suffered serious injuries after being ‘slashed in the neck.’
She was treated in the street by ambulance crews before being taken to hospital, with aftermath photos showing a large pile of used medical debris across from the scene.
Armed police set up two scenes, one in a hotel room and the other on the road outside the hotel.
A large area between Bridgewater Street and Liverpool Road was cordoned off, along with a car park on Deansgate, while investigation work was carried out.
The hotel remained open throughout, with guests seen coming and going from the lobby as the incident went on. A bride and groom – understood to be celebrating their wedding at the Hilton – were also spotted standing outside surveying the police cars.
Suspects could be seen being spoken to by police in the hotel’s bar, before being led away in handcuffs to waiting vans.
GMP confirmed yesterday afternoon that six arrests had been made. They were four men, aged 20, 24, 26 and 26, and two women, aged 17 and 20.
Photos show the suspects, one of whom was brought out of the hotel in
pink pyjamas, being placed into the back of police vans.
A man who works in the area told the M.E.N. he saw more than a dozen police vehicles at the scene.
He said: “We saw a police van turn up in the car park.
“One by one they started arriving – there must have been at least 15.
“One of my colleagues was walking back. He saw a woman on the floor with a large slash across the throat.
“Police were with her at that point, and more and more police turned up. They were running in and out of the Hilton Hotel.
“Then an ambulance turned up and they have only just taken her away.
“They took her away in a wheelchair stretcher.”
A spokesman for GMP confirmed that armed officers would remain at the hotel as the investigation continues.
They force said in a statement: “Shortly after 11.10am on July 23 police officers on Deansgate were flagged down by a woman with serious injuries to her neck.
“The woman has been taken to hospital where she is being treated for lacerations to her neck.
“Four men, aged 20, 24, 26 and 26 and two women, aged 17 and 20, have been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.
“They are all in custody for questioning and inquiries are ongoing.
“Scenes remain in place inside one of the hotel rooms and outside the hotel itself.”
A spokesman for Hilton Manchester Deansgate added: “We can confirm that a serious incident took place at the hotel this morning. The matter is now in the hands of the Greater Manchester Police and we are co-operating fully as they conduct their investigation.”
Anyone with information relating to the incident is asked to call police on 101 quoting reference number 726 of July 23, or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
