Boys arrested over robberies
POLICE SWOOP AFTER RECEIVING 30 CALLS IN FIVE DAYS
FOUR teenage boys have been arrested after police received more than 30 reports relating to robberies, thefts and anti-social behaviour in the city centre.
The boys, two aged 15 and another two aged 14, were being held on suspicion of robberies.
Greater Manchester Police said they received more than 30 calls during the day and night since last Thursday.
In a number of the incidents the victims said they were threatened by a group of youths for their possessions.
GMP have issued a safety warning following the robberies, advising visitors to the city centre to travel in groups, stick to well-lit areas and to not display electronic devices.
Chief Insp Cherie Buttle, of GMP’s City of Manchester Division, said: “Police in the city centre have been dealing with a spike in robberies this weekend.
“Officers from Operation Valiant – which targets personal robberies – are investigating these offences, including studying CCTV footage and speaking to witnesses.
“While we have made arrests, we remain vigilant and would urge anyone who has been the victim of robbery, or has any information that can assist our inquiries, to contact police immediately.
“We have stepped up patrols and officers will continue to be out across the city day and night. If you have any concerns please approach them.
“We will never tolerate innocent members of the public being targeted and threatened like this, and we are working tirelessly to identify the offenders.”
