Don’t Pjanic over signings

- By STUART BRENNAN sport@men-news.co.uk

CITY manager Pep Guardiola has completely ruled out a move for Juventus midfielder Miralem Pjanic.

The Blues have been persistently linked with the Bosnian since their £44m deal for Napoli ace Jorginho collapsed a fortnight ago.

Sources at City have repeatedly denied that they have been making moves for the 28-year-old – and have also completely denied that the Blues will chase Real Madrid’s Mateo Kovacic or Southampton’s Mario Lemina.

Guardiola has declared himself happy with the squad as it is, with just the addition of £60m record signing Riyad Mahrez. But the Pjanic rumour will not go away, with Italian media full of stories that City are beavering away for his signature.

The truth seems to be that Juve are desperate to offload Pjanic to offset the £99m purchase of Cristiano Ronaldo this summer.

Asked about Pjanic, Guardiola could not have been more explicit about where City stand.

“No, he’s a player for Juventus. We are not interested – he’s a top player but we are not interested in him,” he said.

City sources say that the Blues will not be adding any more high-profile signings, but Guardiola gave a hint that something may just happen.

He said: “We’ll see, we have a few weeks and we’ll decide, maybe one but maybe not.

“We have a good squad.”
