COMMUNITY RALLIES ROUND TO HELP HER

KIND-hearted Emma Goss was so upset about Manchester’s homeless she decided to sell her old toys to raise money for them.

The nine-year-old laid out teddy bears, dolls, sandals, games, play dough and clothes on the pavement near her home.

But for most of the day the St Mary’s primary school pupil struggled to sell anything - until three beat bobbies spotted her makeshift sale on Burnside Crescent in Langley, Middleton.

The officers were so touched by her efforts they raided their ‘brew fund’ back at the station and made some purchases, including a wicker heart which now has pride of place on a wall at their police station.

GMP Middleton posted to their 13,000-plus followers about Emma on their Facebook page, writing: “Well done Emma !!!!!! People of Middleton, please if you see Emma and have a bit of spare change, take a look at some of her stuff and if you can help her with her fundraising.”

Emma’s proud dad Rick Goss, 39, replied: “Absolutely amazing, thanks to all three of you for visiting Emma, she was absolutely buzzing after you went and she has seen this post and is so chuffed.

“Glad to see such great community work from our local bobbies.”

The publicity prompted more customers and offers of cash as well as more than a hundreds of expressions of support on Facebook.

Dad Rick told the M.E.N: “Her nanna helps out with the homeless every Sunday night down in Piccadilly (Gardens) in Manchester. And when she goes to Bury on a Saturday she will give money to the homeless. She just feels sorry for them, I think.”

Emma’s sale featured old toys as well as other items donated by her parents like bedding, candles and pictures.

Asked about the help from the police, Rick said: “It was brilliant. When I looked up the street and saw them I thought ‘what are they doing here?’ And then I saw they were supporting her. I thought she was absolutely brilliant.”

So far Emma has raised about £20, not including promises of cash.

On Facebook, GMP Middleton told Emma’s dad: “You must be so proud of her Rick, what a lovely gesture and an even more lovely daughter you have.”
