Gatecrashing Klopp sees Pep’s swift exit

- By ANTHONY JEPSON

JURGEN Klopp gatecrashed Pep Guardiola’s post-match press conference in New York – and caused the City manager to make a sharp exit.

The Blues boss was addressing the media following his side’s 2-1 defeat to the Anfielders in the early hours of yesterday morning, when his opposite number stumbled into the room accompanied by some raucous cheering from the corridor outside.

The pair were fierce – and at times fraught – rivals last season with the teams meeting four times in domestic and European competition. Liverpool were a thorn in City’s side despite the Blues’ title win and a 5-0 Premier League victory.

Liverpool gave City problems again with a friendly 2-1 win that will be of little consequence when Premier League hostilities resume later this month. Despite that, Klopp claimed Guardiola would be ‘angry’ because of his competitive nature.

“I’m pretty sure Pep was a little bit angry because he hates losing, like I do,” Klopp said.

“If you lose a game, you lose a game. How can you be happy?”

Those comments came after Klopp inadvertently cut the Catalan’s time with the media short.

Guardiola ushered the German in, introduced him and shook his hand, then offered him his seat before disappearing, leaving a perplexed Klopp facing the press alone.

“Bye,” he said to the departing Guardiola, before shrugging and saying: “Maybe Jose Mourinho will come and finish my press conference.”
