BEN’S PLAN B FOR KENDAL AFTER RUN DMC DROP OUT

- By TIAH MACGREGOR and DAISY JACKSON

SOLD out for the 13th year in a row, Kendal Calling is making its mark on the Lake District. The multiaward winning festival will once again take over the beautiful Lowther Deer Park until Sunday.

Known for its magnificent lakes, forests and mountains, the Lake District is the perfect setting for the festival.

As well as a stellar line-up of music, Kendal Calling is promising art, wellbeing, and family-friendly zones too. You can meditate or join a yoga class in the Garden of Eden, watch a film at the cinema, or immerse yourself in art installations at the Lost Eden. Who’s performing on which day? The Libertines and Catfish & The Bottlemen top the bill this year, along with Plan B - AKA Ben Drew – who’s been drafted in as a last minute replacement for Run DMC.

Organisers have apologised after a ‘scheduling issue’ left the New York hip hop group unable to perform their alloted Saturday night slot - but said they were looking forward to welcoming Plan B - aka English hip hop artist Ben Drew - in their place.

It will be his first festival headline slot since the release of his fourth album, Heaven Before All Hell Breaks Loose, in May.

Here’s who else festival-goers can look forward to on this year’s line up. Today (Friday) The main stage on Friday will be headlined by Catfish and the Bottlemen, with James, White Lies, and Declan McKenna also on the bill.

On the Calling Out stage, it’s Tom Grennan in the top spot, along with Marmozets William McCarthy, and Manchester boys Jordan Allen.

The Glow stage will have Icarus and Gorgon Ctity, while Woodlands will be headlined by Elvana.

You’ll also find DJ sets from Nico Mirallegro (you’ll recognise him from Hollyoaks), Tom Turgoose (This is England), and When In Manchester, and comedy from Mark Watson in the Soapbox area. Tomorrow (Saturday) The star of the show on Saturday will be Plan B, who will headline the main stage that evening. Shed Seven, Fun Lovin’ Criminals, Bugzy Malone and The Slow Readers Club are also up on the main stage.

Lucy Spraggan’s up top in the Calling Out line-up, with Black Honey and King No-one among the bill too.

Grandmaster Flash will definitely be worth catching when he headlines Glow on Saturday, as will a DJ set from Tim Burgess on the Tim Peaks stage.

The London Astrobeat Orchestra will perform Talking Heads on the Woodlands stage on Saturday. Sunday To close this year’s Kendal Calling festival, they’ve called upon The Libertines. Ocean Colour Scene, The Wailers, and The Sherlocks will also be playing the main stage on the last day of the festival.

The Amazons and Pale Waves are both playing the Calling Out stage on Sunday, and Basement Jaxx and Horse Meat Disco will both be at the Glow stage.

Clint Boon will do a DJ set at the House Party stage, and The Beat-sie Boys and Dantevilles will be on the Woodlands stage. Food and drink The food and drink line up is curated just as carefully as the music bill and festival-goers can expect to find cuisines including British, Creole, Indian, Tibetan, Thai, American and everything in between. There’s the CAMRAsupported Real Ale festival too, which celebrates all the amazing produce from the Lake District’s best breweries. This is where you’ll find Kendal Calling’s own ales Kendale and Oh Deer!

For spirit fans, Russian Standard will have their own cocktail tent, and a Mule Market where you can mix your own Russian Mule with herbs, fruits and spices. Tickets For the 13th year in a row, Kendal Calling has completely sold out. Kendal Calling has also partnered with Twickets, enabling you to buy and sell your spare tickets for no more than face value, and a handful were still available at the time of writing.
