That’s one way to keep cool!

-

IT was another scorching hot day in Greater Manchester as temperatures rose to near 30C.

So Mancs - who are used to a more temperate climate - found unique ways to keep cool.

Neil Williams, who works as a paint sprayer, had the ingenious idea of using his tools to help him cool off. The 37-year-old asked his colleague Steve Hamlet to dowse him in water using a cherry picker and a jet spray at a building site near Manchester city centre.

Italee Anderson came up with an even better way of battling the searing heat. The eight-year-old was sharing an ice cream with her mum Paula, 42, when she decided to help her cool down by sticking it in her eye.

People were making the most of the sunshine while it lasts, ahead of forecast downpours over the weekend.

A band of rain is expected to sweep across the region tonight and will bring temperatures down to between 22C and 23C by tomorrow. It’s set to feel much fresher, with some strong breezes throughout the day.

The sunshine will try to break through but Met Office forecasters say thunder and scattered showers cannot be ruled out. On Sunday, the region should be ready for a very wet and windy day. A Met Office spokesman said: “There will be a significant change and low pressure system, which we haven’t seen for a long time. It will bring proper heavy rain across much of the UK, everywhere except the far South East.

“On the hills in particular there will be heavy rain. Up to 30mm of rain is expected to fall throughout the day on Sunday and there will be winds of between 30 and 40 mph.”
