CITY now turn their attentions to Sunday’s Community Shield clash with Chelsea after returning from the US.

Here are some of the highlights from their time in America.

LIVERPOOL GOAL After a run-out in the Chicago rain barely worthy of comment, there were no expectations in New Jersey for City’s youngsters against a Liverpool side with far more experience and quality.

However, while the result may have gone against them the performance was mightily impressive, with the improvement from the first to the second game eyecatching.

If it showed the potential of some of the academy players at the club, the game also highlighted the coaching brilliance of Pep Guardiola.

The manager’s critics like to put all of his success down to spending but you could clearly see that the youngsters were already understanding and learning more with every day spent on the training pitch.

While it was first-teamers Bernardo Silva and Leroy Sane who combined for the goal it was a wonderful team move started from the goalkeeper and involved eight players, bearing all the wonderful hallmarks of Guardiola’s team last season.

MENDY GETS HIS MEDAL OUT Benjamin Mendy was the star attraction at a City barbecue in Miami, and not just because he was the newest addition to the touring party.

The Frenchman has been carrying his World Cup winners’ medal with him everywhere and happily allowed all interested players, staff and club employees to take a look.

Mendy clearly needs to get back playing regular football again and nobody feels that more than the man himself.

But as he continues to build his fitness up, gestures such as this one explain why he remains incredibly popular with everyone at the club.

BERNARDO SILVA TURNS IT ON Some moments that seem significant prove not to be and others only reveal their importance with time, but for now Bernardo Silva’s 60 minutes against Bayern Munich command attention.

Here is a player who impressed in his first year at the club but faced strong competition for places that will be even greater with the addition of Riyad Mahrez.

Asked to cut his holiday short this summer after his involvement with Portugal at the World Cup, the 24-yearold has got his head down, worked hard and made it impossible for his manager not to make him an automatic pick for the start of the season.

JOE HART GOES, PLAYS, AND SPEAKS Football fans in the US were largely starved of star names in the City squad but anyone that went to Soldier Field in Chicago or the MetLife in New Jersey can say they were there when Joe Hart pulled on a City shirt again – the first time in nearly two years.

And the former England No.1 agreed to stop for the British journalists after the first game where he answered some tough questions about the last two years honestly.

Hart is no closer to having a future under Guardiola but he will leave now on better terms than the abrupt departure back in 2016.
