A SEX worker who was violently raped by a punter has praised police after her attacker was jailed.

Nicolae Ciprian Enus, 35, subjected his victim to a horrific early-hours sex attack in one of Manchester’s red light districts.

His victim was left distraught, battered and bruised after being punched in the face and raped. Initially she chose not to make a full report because she believed police would not be able to help her.

But Enus, a married father originally from Romania, has now been locked up for seven years for his horrific crimes.

The woman, who is entitled to lifetime anonymity, says justice has been served thanks to the tireless efforts of two police officers who spent 18 months investigating her attack.

Speaking after Enus was jailed, she said: “My way of thinking was that police wouldn’t have found him because there was not much to go on and I thought perhaps they wouldn’t try that hard, because of my job.

“I just went home and took paracetamol and put a cold compress on my face. They asked me to do the interview but I still didn’t think it would work out in my heart. But I did report it just in the hope they might find him.

“I was surprised when they said they’d arrested someone and asked me to ID him.”

When the case went to trial the victim was asked to give evidence in court and says her mental health history and record were unpicked as she stood in the dock.

“It made me feel like I was on trial,” she said. “But I think it’s a fair sentence and it’ll stop him harming someone else.

“This has changed how I feel about reporting it. I was believed and the police officers were really nice. I want to thank them and I would encourage anyone else who is raped to report it.”

Enus was finally identified as the rapist after the attack in October 2016 following the investigation by Det Con Sarah Austin and colleague Det Con Natalie Schloz.

Officers studied CCTV footage in the aftermath of the rape and discovered an abandoned car which contained documents revealing Enus’s name and several credit card receipts. A wanted appeal was circulated and Enus was eventually arrested at Liverpool John Lennon Airport as he tried to board a plane to Romania. The victim identified Enus in an ID parade and his DNA was matched with a sample found at the crime scene. Despite this evidence, Enus denied raping or attacking the victim. He claimed he had paid to have consensual sex with her and said he had no idea how she had come about her injuries.

After a four-day trial, a Manchester Crown Court jury found Enus, formerly of Moss Bank, Crumpsall, guilty of rape and assault.

Det Con Austin said his jailing proved that police would always take victims of rape seriously. “The victim didn’t think police would take her seriously,” she said. “No matter what walk of life you come from the police are not going to make any judgements and will treat everybody exactly the same.” Sex worker raped by Nicolae Enus
