Burritos to Wolf down

IT’S the foodie culture clash you never knew you needed in your life - the Italian ‘burrito’ is here.

Wolf Italian Street Food is the latest signing to Manchester Arndale’s £11m Hallé Place food development, and it’s bringing its twist on piada with it.

Also known as piadina, the Italian flatbreads are a staple of the Emilia-Romagna region and are typically served folded and filled with cured meats and cheeses.

At Wolf Street Food, they’re rolled around fillings including Italian pulled pork or garlic and rosemary steak, and served with a choice of toppings and sauces.

Managing director Tim Entwistle said: “The easiest way to describe it is like an Italian burrito, but instead of Mexican flavours we have things like lemon and garlic chicken, spicy Italian sausage and hot sauces like pomodoro, diavolo and parmesan alfredo - and instead of rice we fill it with spaghettini.”

Diners can also mix and match the same toppings and sauces with spaghettini or penne in pasta bowls, pile them on freshly-baked focaccia or toss them in salad bowls.

The menu will also feature changing specials such as roast porchetta and salmon.

The independent restaurant group already has sites in Leeds, Reading and London, and now Tim is bringing it home to the region where he grew up.

“I’m a Bolton boy originally and I’ve always wanted to bring it back here,” he said.

“It’s mega popular in London and we’re doing well in all the sites; it’s something new. “We hope the people of Manchester will take to it too - I’m sure they will.

“It’s a healthy cuisine and all the meats are marinated fresh on site. There’s no central kitchen, everything you see is prepared here.”

Wolf Italian Street Food will be among 10 new bars and restaurants in the shopping centre’s new food hub, joining brands including champagne bar FIZZ! by Frizzenti, Spanish TV chef Omar Allibhoy’s Tapas Revolution restaurant, and Manchesterbased burrito bar Barburrito.

Hallé Place is currently taking shape in the atrium off Market Street, formerly known as Hallé Square. The development is expected to be completed this autumn.
