FERDINAND TELLS UNITED CHIEF TO KEEP POGBA ... AND SIGN ALDERWEIRELD

- By CHARLOTTE DUNCKER

RIO Ferdinand has told Ed Woodward he needs to keep Paul Pogba at the club - and buy Toby Alderweireld before tomorrow’s transfer deadline day.

United are working on a number of deals to try to secure a fourth signing of the summer.

But it is not just incomings that are being discussed - a number of high-profile names have been linked with the Old Trafford exit.

Reports claim Pogba’s agent Mino Raiola has offered him to La Liga giants Barcelona.

As M.E.N. Sport reported yesterday, it is claimed United have already rejected a deal of £44.6m plus Yerry Mina and Andre Gomes from the Spanish side. But Ferdinand wants Woodward to ensure the 25-year-old stays put.

Writing on Twitter, the former England defender said: “Don’t you dare allow this Ed, MUFC is Pogba’s home.

“Silence these rumours ASAP and get Toby Alderweireld through the door.”

United are still working on a deal to get Alderweireld to United before the 5pm deadline tomorrow but are also negotiating with Bayern Munich over centre-back Jerome Boateng.

The Reds have also shown greater interest in Leicester’s Harry Maguire than Boateng, but the former City defender could be a more attainable option than the England international and Spurs defender Alderweireld.
