Boss upbeat despite transfer snub

-

PEP Guardiola has said it was not a blow that City didn’t sign Jorginho and has compared the deal collapsing to Alexis Sanchez’s move to United.

Both Jorginho and Sanchez looked set to join City but at the last minute their destinations changed with Jorginho joining Chelsea this summer and Sanchez opting for United in the January transfer window.

However, despite missing out on two targets the City boss remained upbeat as he refused to rule out signing a ‘special’ player before the window closes tomorrow.

“The blow would be to come here but when he preferred to be in Chelsea. Nobody put it in his head to come,” Guardiola said.

“We believe we were so close, we believed it was done but at the last turn he decided to go to Chelsea. The same with Alexis Sanchez when he decided to go to United.

“Every player has his own abilities and he is a special player for the way we want to play but we will try to find someone else.

City have brought in Riyad Mahrez already in this transfer window Guardiola hasn’t ruled out adding another player to his squad.

“We will see,” he replied when asked if City would sign anyone else. “If at the end we decide to bring another one, it’s because it is a special player and to be a special player for us not just to have another player to add up the numbers. I am so satisfied.”
