Cannabis factory hidden in former hair salon
POLICE DISCOVER DRUGS FARM DURING HOUSING INQUIRY
A HUGE cannabis farm spanning two floors has been uncovered at a former hair salon.
More than 160 plants were discovered by police at the unit in Heywood as they carried out routine inquiries.
Officers said a man, who was in the flat above the premises at the time, saw them coming and tried to run away.
He was chased and stopped. When police went back to search the building they discovered the former salon and the cellar below had been converted into a cannabis farm. The electricity meter had also been bypassed. A spokesman for GMP’s Heywood division said a man was arrested on suspicion of drug and immigration offences, he was later released under investigation. Officers shared photos of the haul on Facebook.
All 164 plants were seized and have been sent for destruction. Cultivation equipment was dismantled. The spokesman said: “At around 4pm on Monday, officers were carrying out inquiries with housing on York Street when a man fled from a flat above a former hair salon.
“He was detained and when officers searched the premises they found a cannabis farm in the shop and in the cellar below.”
