THE different communities which make Manchester buzz are being celebrated in a spectacular free family fiesta which will be a fitting finale to the summer holidays.

The inaugural Festival of Manchester, a brand new annual event on the city’s calendar, takes place at Platt Fields Park in Manchester on Saturday, September 1.

The Festival is a celebration of all the different ingredients that help make Manchester such a vibrant place, and will bring together everything that is great about them and the city.

The day will see a non-stop programme of activities and performances to keep everyone entertained throughout, including food, fashion, music, colour, crafts, culture and sport.

Three different performance areas will feature a wide and lively mix of music, dance and circus into the evening as the sun sets, and walkabout entertainments throughout the park will add to the fiesta atmosphere.

A selection of festival food to satisfy every taste will be available all day, and plenty of seated areas will be available for those who want to take the weight off their feet while they snack, or just to sit back and enjoy the spectacle of the day. From BMX and American football, to basketball tournaments, cycling try-outs and yoga, street sports and pop-up family games throughout the day will keep even the most energetic visitors on their toes.

There will also be plenty of opportunities to get crafty with arts and craft activities on offer at The Bazaar. Councillor Luthfur Rahman, Executive Member for Schools, Culture and Leisure for Manchester City Council, said: “The Festival is a chance for every different community living in Manchester to show off the best bits of their culture.

“Behind the fun is the serious contribution that culture makes to our city, and especially the value of the communities that make our diverse and vibrant city such a great place to live, work and play.

“It’s going to be a fantastic fiesta – a real celebration of our different communities, our dance, food, music, crafts, sports, traditions and languages. What better way to finish off this spectacular summer?

“So come down, get involved in some fantastic activities and help celebrate our differences and everything that helps make Manchester so amazing.”
