VINCENT Kompany has become the latest sports star to turn his hand to Manchester’s luxury property scene.

The Manchester City skipper has announced plans for 75 high-end apartments in Ancoats, ranging from one bed to three beds, complete with a shared rooftop terrace.

Proposals for the nine-storey development also include 24,306 sq ft office space at the 1950s former electrical works on Bengal Street.

The Belgian-born star has teamed up with Manchester property tycoon Nathan Ezair to form the development brand ‘M4nchester Two.’

Ezair is the director of propertydevelopment company Northerngroup.

His portfolio includes luxury housing projects in the city centre, including the Ice Plant, Flint Glass Wharf and Jactin House.

The new site will be located within the Ancoats conservation area and faces south onto the Grade-II listed Victoria Square tenement block.

Kompany is the latest sports star to step into the increasingly popular Manchester propertydevelopment business.

He joins former Manchester United star Gary Neville, who is now contributing to the city’s expanding high-rise property scene.

Earlier this year, the Bury-born footballer had plans for a dramatic skyscraper in Manchester city centre approved by the town hall.

The £200m St Michael’s development will see a luxury five-star hotel and apartments, in a tower reaching more than 30 storeys, built off Deansgate on Jackson’s Row.

There will also be new office space in the former Bootle Street police station, a new synagogue and a rooftop terrace.

In June, Lancashire and England cricket legend Andrew Flintoff released plans for a 35-storey skyscraper in Castlefield, housing 159 swanky flats.

Ezair says the latest plans are focused on creating ‘high-end apartments’ with ‘groundbreaking’ interiors. He added: “We want to try and do something a bit different and get away from the typical Manchester apartment look.

“Vincent is an active investor and everything is discussed and he is very much showing the vision of what we both want to do here.”

He says the plans are also focused on shifting the heavily-dominated residential scene in Ancoats by developing new office space.

“We’re conscious that Ancoats has started to become dominated by residential, and we think it’s important to get some active day-time uses into buildings,” Ezair said.

“What we are clearly not is gym operators, cinema room operators, etc.

“The proposed Bengal Street Scheme is superbly located within the heart of a great international city.

“City centre amenities are on the doorstep for all Ancoats residents, so we made a conscious decision to stick to doing what we are best at and allow our residents to go out of their homes and discover the city and all it has to offer.”
