Schmeichel: Shaw goal was a fluke!

-

LUKE Shaw has revealed Kasper Schmeichel believed the left-back’s first goal for United was a fluke.

The 23-year-old started the first game of the season against Leicester and marked the new campaign with his first goal for the club in the 83rd minute.

And the left-back has revealed Leicester keeper Schmeichel approached him after the game to hint his strike was a fluke.

“For my career so far, it’s probably the best feeling I’ve had. I want more feelings like that,” he said.

“That’s why you come to stadiums like this, to teams like this, to help the team and score goals like that. It was the best feeling.

“First touch? Deliberate! Schmeichel came up to me afterwards and said ‘you spawny man’! I said ‘I don’t care, it went in!’” Fluke or not, Shaw was delighted to round off a solid performance with a goal and Jose Mourinho was also keen to praise the left-back, who he has heavily criticised in the past.

“His game was very complete. If I forget the goal, which was an important goal for us, the performance was very complete,” the United boss said.

“I think there was one defensive mistake, and probably the linesman could have helped him and given a free-kick against Leicester.

“But it was a very, very complete performance, now he has to just keep going.

“The mentality was very good, the tactical discipline was very good too. He still had the power to go forward and score an important goal for us.”
