Machetes held to couple’s throats

-

A TERRIFIED couple had machetes held to their throats before being punched by thugs who threatened to kill them after storming their home.

The three robbers, also armed with a baseball bat, broke through the front door of the house, on Kingsway, Didsbury, before setting upon the man and woman, who are in their 60s.

Police said one of the men held the blade to the man’s throat before punching him several times in the head.

The men threatened to kill him if he did not hand over valuables. The woman was forced upstairs by another man, who then held a machete to her throat, punched her in the face and threatened to kill her if she did not do what he said.

All three men escaped in a 4x4 with cash and jewellery.

Police have launched an investigation and are appealing for anyone with information about the robbery, which happened at around 9.30pm on August 12, to come forward.

Det Insp Madeline Kelly, from GMP’s City of Manchester Division, said: “These criminals have put their victims through a truly harrowing ordeal.

“No one should be subjected to such a terrifying attack in their own home.

“Inquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances of what happened, and I am appealing for anyone with any information about this incident to please get in touch with the police as soon as possible.”
