Jobs are on the line, says furious Littler

- By TOM BRAMWELL

STUART Littler is looking for a reaction from his Swinton side this weekend after posting what he labelled their worst performance of the season last time out against Dewsbury.

The Lions – fighting for their lives at the bottom of the Betfred Championship Shield – will have targeted a victory over the Rams and were leading at the break, but slumped to a comprehensive 40-7 defeat.

Littler said: “We went in 7-6 up (at half-time), but we were probably not as composed as I’d like with the ball, completing at 58 per cent.

“We spoke about picking our completion rate up, kicking well and getting on the back of it and playing for field position.

“But in that second half, I thought we had some really dishonest actions. I pride myself on honesty, time and time again I’ve praised the boys for turning up and giving everything – but I think that’s the worst performance we’ve had all season in that second half.

“There are jobs on the line, careers on the line and we might as well have just melted.

“Our skill level has got to be better than that. We were just not giving ourselves any opportunity. 7-6 up and I think we threw the towel in.”

Swinton trail Sheffield by six points with six matches remaining and welcome the Eagles to Heywood Road on Sunday.

“We’ve got to fight until we can’t fight,” added Littler. “But I’ve got to see more than that. I think we let ourselves down.”
