ACID HOUSE FACE STOLEN FROM BAR TURNS UP AT LIAM GALLAGHER GIG
IS this the most Mancunian crime of all time?
A giant acid house smiley face was stolen from a pre-show party in a city centre bar, seemingly never to be seen again, only for it to turn up hours later – at a Liam Gallagher concert.
Promoter Tracey Donnelly was hosting a pre-gig warm up event at the Liquor Store on Saturday evening when a man ran up and yanked the enormous decorative smiley face off the DJ booth before legging it.
Tracey and Laura Graham, her partner from Hunky Dory Promotions, realised what was happening and tried to wrestle it away from the light-fingered fan, but he managed to get away.
Fearing she might never see the 6ft graphic again, Tracey took to Twitter appealing for its safe return.
She wrote: “If anyone sees a lad walking around town with a 6ft smiley face, it belongs to me, he’s just robbed it from LiquorStoreMCR, the face will be very distressed. I need him back.”
That’s when things took a smileinducing turn, when concert-goer Hope Doyle spotted the smiley in the crowd at Emirates Old Trafford and snapped a photo.
And although she still hasn’t got ‘Smiley’ back, Tracey can see the funny side.
She said: “I haven’t stopped laughing. I woke up to loads of pictures of the smiley crowdsurfing at Liam Gallagher. “It’s massive. How he managed to get it in there past security I don’t know. “The boy who took it ran past me with it. I said ‘excuse me, that’s mine’ but he just made a run for it. “The cheek of it, honestly. “I haven’t got him back but I hope wherever Smiley is, he’s having a good time. “I hope Liam Gallagher has taken him round the country. I’d like it if whoever has got him can send me pictures of his adventures. “I love it, it’s really made people smile. I just hope Smiley is having a good time, wherever he is.” The smiley face wasn’t the only item to be pilfered from the Manchesterthemed warm-up party. Tracey and Laura also handed out tambourines – none of which have been seen since.
