Police warning as off-road bikers run riot

-

GANGS of bikers have been running riot in Trafford.

There has been an increase over the past few weeks in reports of motorcyclists riding around Sale and Sale Moor on bikes without registration plates, helmets or correct safety clothing.

The force posted a warning about the anti-social behaviour on the GMP Trafford South Facebook page yesterday.

It read: “Over recent weeks we have seen an increase in the use of motorcycles and mopeds around Sale Moor and Sale.

“The majority of people are failing to display registration plates. On most occasions the riders are not wearing helmets or the correct safety clothing.

“This is causing concern for the safety of the public as well as the riders themselves. Due to the manner of driving and the way the riders are dressed they more than likely do not have licences or insurance for their vehicles. This is causing a negative impact on the community regarding the antisocial behaviour.”

Police are urging anyone who witnesses people riding dangerously to get in touch, to help them put a stop to it.

“If you are the riders, this needs to stop now. Rest assured we will catch you and your bikes will be seized. By doing this you are committing many different types of offences, which when caught you will be prosecuted for.”

Anyone with information is asked to report it to 101. Reports can also be made on the GMP Webchat service at www.gmp.police.uk.

Alternatively, calls can be made to Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
