Aces roar back into top four with super win against Lions

- By HAYLEY BROMLEY

BELLE Vue took no prisoners in their 57-33 wipeout of Leicester to move themselves back into the Premiership top four while also fulfilling their vow of redemption for their loss at Beaumont Park.

The Rentruck Aces have blown the race for the play-offs wide open after notching up 10 league points in the last week alone, and are targeting even bigger performances in the coming meetings.

It was an eventful night for the home team with Dan Bewley flipping his bike on parade, Craig Cook taking flight on the fourth bend and Rohan Tungate having problems with a jammed throttle.

But despite these hiccups they produced a masterclass of racing right from Heat 1 to deliver a vital home win and put themselves in a favourable position and keep the pressure on their rivals.

Dan Bewley proved none the worse for wear for his parade mishap and surged to the top of the Rentruck Aces’ score charts with 12+1, while Steve Worrall contributed a stunning 11+1.

Worrall said: “We couldn’t underestimate Leicester. They’ve got some very experienced riders who are quite capable of doing damage around our track so we had to approach with caution.

“But the aura in the camp right now is so relaxed. Everyone has settled in really well and I think that’s been evident in this last week in particular because it’s had a huge impact on our results.

“Personally, it feels like I’ve finally turned a corner. I’ve been feeling more comfortable and more confident on the bike, and I’m more focused on winning races than thinking about trivia.

“It was absolutely crucial that we did what we needed to do at home. The race for the play offs is wide open now. It’s everyone’s to lose, including ours, and we’re pumped up for the fight.”
