Cleaver thugs hunted
POLICE HUNTING FOR THREE MEN WHO ATTACKED GRANDAD IN ROBBERY
POLICE are continuing to hunt for three men after a grandad was attacked with a meat cleaver and had thousands stolen from his shop.
Saeed Ahmed, 56, was left with a severed artery following the raid at his business Pound Box on Cheetham Hill Road, north Manchester, last week.
His son Tehsin Naqash was hit with a baseball bat during the incident on Tuesday, August 14.
Shocking images of Saaed covered in blood were released by his family last week in a bid to try to find the robbers.
Saeed, who has five children and one granddaughter, was taken to hospital by a friend and has since been discharged. No arrests have yet been made and police are renewing appeals for witnesses.
The three robbers stormed into the Western Union money transfer business at 2.45pm.
They hit Tehsin on the back of his head, knocking him to the floor.
Another two of the men cut Saeed’s hands and neck with a machete, severing an artery in one hand. The trio fled with around £15,000 cash and several men could be seen driving away from the scene in a silver vehicle.
They were wearing dark clothing and had their faces covered.
At the time of the incident Cheetham Hill Road and the surrounding area, including Esmond Road, would have been busy with vehicles and pedestrians.
Detective Inspector Andy Buckthorpe, of GMP’s City of Manchester division, said: “We are pleased that the injured man is recovering well and we are committed to getting him the justice he deserves.
“We are following several lines of inquiry and believe that there are still people out there with information on this robbery.
“This was a violent crime right in the heart of the community during broad daylight. Someone must have seen the offenders in the lead-up to this terrifying incident, or in moments afterwards. Even the tiniest piece of information can open up new lines of inquiry and lead to successful prosecutions.”
Anyone with information in relation to the incident, the people responsible and/or the silver vehicle can contact police on 0161 856 1146, quoting log number 1165 of 14/08/18.
