‘Cockroaches in kitchen’ takeaway closes down
A TAKEAWAY which was slammed after cockroaches were found in the kitchen has closed.
When council environmental health inspectors visited Chatkhara’s, in Longsight, in July they found a host of hygiene and cleanliness issues.
These included four cockroaches in a storage area.
It was given a hygiene rating of just one, the second lowest on the scale which runs from zero to five.
The inspector’s report also said curries were being stored at room temperature in a bain marie, which can be used to gently heat or warm food for long periods. It added: large “Kebab meat was probed in the cold display unit at 20 degrees – chilled food must be kept below eight degree Celsius (with a 4-hour exemption).
“The floor of the yard area in front of the walk-in chiller requires a clean.
“The floor of the main kitchen requires a clean and debris underneath equipment needs to be removed.
“Food handlers must have adequate supervision and training – poor practices witnessed at the time of visit.”
They were ordered not to serve any customers with allergies until a ‘robust allergen management system’ was put in place.
And they were told to make urgent improvements pending a re-visit – but the takeaway on Stockport Road, which also had a seated ‘party hall’ area, has now closed its doors.
The M.E.N. visited the premises, but the shutters were down and we were unable to make contact with the management.
A council spokesman said they had been informed in writing that the restaurant had ceased trading so no further action has been taken. However, he added: “It’s unacceptable for any food premises to fall short when it comes to cleanliness.
“Those that do customers at risk.
“We will enforce against those premises that do not take responsibilities seriously.” are putting
