Randall arrival gives Rochdale pick-me-up

- FOOTBALL By SHELDAN KEAY @MENSports

ROCHDALE will try to put their midweek frustration behind them when they host League One rivals Walsall at the Crown Oil Arena.

Keith Hill’s side suffered a 4-0 defeat at home to Barnsley on Tuesday, but they’ve been given a boost ahead of today’s game by signing Connor Randall on loan from Liverpool until January.

“When I heard about the move I was keen to come over and get it done,” said Randall.

“It’s gone quite quickly, so I’m very happy to get it completed. Hopefully, whilst I’m here I can impress and get as much game time as possible.

“I’ve seen a couple of the games already this season and there’s been some good football, so I think the style of play will suit me.”

In League Two, OLDHAM ATHLETIC manager Frankie Bunn is expecting today’s opponents Morecambe to be extremely high in spirits at the Globe Arena.

Morecambe had a poor start to the season, losing their opening three matches, but bounced back in midweek with a 1-0 win over Northampton Town. With that in mind, Bunn believes Morecambe will be confident heading into the match.

“They’re on the back of a good win so they’ll be a bit more confident and it looks like they’ll try and play,” he said.

“They have bright frontmen and midfielders who want to get on the ball, so we’ll adapt accordingly and try to nullify them, but we’ll prepare properly as usual and hopefully we’ll be on it Saturday.”

BURY will try to get back on track when they visit Crawley Town. The Shakers picked up a victory in their opening match of the campaign but haven’t won any since then, leaving them 17th in the table.

Crawley have found things equally as tough, sitting one place below Bury, with only goal difference separating the two sides.

MACCLESFIELD TOWN have a home match at the Moss Rose, taking on Mansfield Town. The Silkmen are second from bottom but picked up their first point of the campaign in midweek, drawing 1-1 at home to Cheltenham Town. Mansfield are in 10th place.

In the Championship, BOLTON WANDERERS will attempt to keep up their fantastic start when they host Sheffield United. The Trotters are in third place after three wins.

WIGAN ATHLETIC visit Queens Park Rangers. Wigan are in eighth position, while QPR are bottom of the table after losing all four of their matches.
