Top class girls set new record
WITHINGTON Girls’ School celebrated a record-breaking year of top grades.
Their class of 2018 achieved an all-time high for the school with 41 per cent of subject grades passed at A*.
One in four of their students scooped a clean sweep of three or more A*s.
Many of the youngsters are now bound for top universities, with 14 girls securing places at Oxford and Cambridge.
Other achievements among pupils this year include Grade 8 music qualifications, LAMDA distinctions and Duke of Edinburgh’s Gold Awards.
Sarah Haslam, headteacher, said: “In a year of continuing A-level reform, we are delighted to see our students maintaining the Withington tradition of academic excellence and securing outstanding results that enable them to now move on to the next exciting stage and pursue their dreams and ambitions.”
A MANCHESTER Grammar School bursary boy was feeling euphoric after bagging a set of outstanding results.
Anik Mallick, 18, from Longsight, scooped 3 A*s in biology, chemistry and maths, with a further A in physics.
He joined the grammar school sixth form as a bursary student almost two years ago. “I feel euphoric,” he said. “I would not be the person I am today if I hadn’t attended MGS – it’s been my dream to come to here since I was in Year Six. I would like to say a big thank you to the people who have sponsored not just me, but all of the other bursary boys.”
