The future looking bright for grammar school pass masters

50 PER CENT OF EXAM ENTRIES AWARDED A*

CELEBRATIO­NS were in full swing at Stockport Grammar School on A-level results day.

More than 50 per cent of all exam entries were awarded A* and A grades, with 80pc of results at A*-B.

Nine pupils at the grammar school managed to secure their places at Oxford and Cambridge.

Headteache­r Andrew Chicken said: “Congratula­tions to our girls and boys. I hope they will enjoy celebratin­g their welldeserv­ed success with their families.

“With the support of their parents and teachers, their hard work and dedication has brought them outstandin­g results and I wish them well as they go on to challengin­g courses at the country’s most competitiv­e universiti­es.

“In their commitment to school life and involvemen­t in a wide range of co-curricular and voluntary activities they have become role models for the younger pupils. I am sure that they will continue to excel and that their future will hold many exciting opportunit­ies.”

Six pupils scored a clean sweep of A*s, including head boy, Sam Howard, who is heading to Oxford to study maths, and head girl Emma Crook, who will study philosophy at Cambridge.

Cambridge also beckons for Nathan Kingsley and Beatrice Asquith who will study natural sciences; Paarbrahm Singh, who will study maths; and Millie Johnson, who will study architectu­re.
