Highest levels of commitment
CELEBRATIONS were in order for youngsters at Bolton Sixth Form College on A-level results day.
The college announced a 99 per cent pass rate with 67pc of students scooping higher grades, and 96pc of BTEC National Diploma entries achieving Distinction* to Distinction.
Principal Stuart Merrills said: “These results place the college significantly above the national rates for post-16 school and college providers and again ranks Bolton Sixth Form College alongside the best in the country.
“Students have worked extremely hard over the last two years and these results are a reflection of their dedication, commitment and motivation to succeed.”
The majority of students will be going on to higher education at universities across the country.
“I would personally like to thank the staff at the college, too, who work as a great team, with a huge amount of desire and commitment to see our students do well,” added the principal.
“We are an inclusive college which does not put artificial selection barriers in front of student ambition and I’m extremely proud of the level of dedication, care and attention they bring to work every day.”
IT was top marks all round for the girls’ division of Bolton School.
Their class of 2018 recorded the school’s best set of results in recent years with 54.5pc of all A-level papers graded at A* or A.
The percentage of passes at A* rose to 15.9pc from 12.5pc, as did the percentage of passes at A*-B, which rose to 78.4pc from 77pc.
Headmistress Sue Hincks said: “I am delighted that the girls have done so well and that they can now plan the next stage of their lives with confidence.
“The vast majority have received their first or second choice university offer and, for those who just missed out, staff have been in all morning ensuring that we can match girls with the best places in clearing.
“Particularly pleasing are the A* grades in French and Spanish as these subjects have been in decline nationally, and Ofqual has taken steps to ensure that students are not disadvantaged by taking what are perceived as ‘hard’ subjects – I’m very glad that this work has paid off.”
Pupils Kat Gramm, Priya Guhathakurta, Nadiya Hall and Neha Khimani got straight 3A*s or better. Kat Gramm also secured her place at Brasenose College, Oxford, to study medicine and Eloise Booth achieved grades allowing her to progress to St Catherine’s College, Cambridge, to read Spanish and Portuguese.
