SITCOM STAR’S FORMER HOME GOES ON MARKET FOR £750,000

AN extended and converted farmhouse that was home to one of TV’s most distinctive faces has come on to the market.

The four-bedroom home is cur- rently for sale in Daisy Nook Park, in Failsworth .

Built in the 1650s, it was formerly the home to Minnie Higginbottom.

Born in Dukinfield in 1928, Minnie had, by 1951, changed her name to Kathy Staff.

TV viewers the world over would forever associate Kathy with one of sitcom’s best-loved characters – Nora Batty.

Kathy played Nora in Last of The Summer Wine, a housewife with trademark wrinkled stockings, pinny and hair curlers, between 1973 – appearing in the show’s pilot episode– until 2008.

Nora featured in 245 of the 295 episodes of the world’s longestrunning sitcom, rejecting Compo Simmonite’s advances and manhandling her husband Wally.

Kathy also had roles in other popular sitcoms and soaps, including Coronation Street, Open All Hours and Crossroads.

The home is situated within Daisy Nook Park, a 40-acre country park in Failsworth in an area once known as Waterhouses.

In 1855 local poet and writer Ben Brierley published “A Day Out” featuring a ramble to a fictional beauty spot called Daisy Nook which he set at Waterhouses.

The name stuck and Daisy Nook Park continues to attract visitors to its canal, woodlands, wildflower meadows and water feature Crime Lake, formed in 1795 and named after the old word related to land intersected by a watercourse or stream.

Boodle Fold Farm is located within the park just off Stanneybrook Road, directly opposite Daisy Nook Garden Centre.

The property has been refurbished to a high standard in keeping with its history and character.

The ground floor features a porch, a large lounge with Portuguese limestone fireplace, dining room with hand finished oak flooring, kitchen with Danish timber worktops, utility room, conservatory and an orangery.

Upstairs, there are four bedrooms and the master comes complete with a dressing room with a Victorian cast-iron fireplace. Bedroom two has an en-suite and there is a family bathroom.

There is a detached double garage with an office attached to it, a paddock, tiered gardens, an orchard and a brook running through the grounds.

Boodle Fold Farm is currently on the market for £750,000, having been reduced from the initial asking price of £800,000. The property has previously sold for £244,500 in 1999 and £600,000 in 2007.
