Bunn keeping cool as Latics continue run

- FOOTBALL By SHELDAN KEAY @MENSports

OLDHAM ATHLETIC manager Frankie Bunn insists he isn’t getting carried away following his side’s 2-0 victory at Morecambe on Saturday.

Goals from Chris O’Grady and Gevaro Nepomuceno earned Latics the win at the Globe Arena.

The three points puts Oldham eighth in the League Two table, but Bunn says there is still a long way to go.

“We might be up to eighth in the table but it doesn’t mean anything. Our league position will only mean something in May, but of course it’s something to build on,” he said.

“Seven points out of nine in a week is good going, but we know we are not the finished article.”

ROCHDALE suffered a 2-1 defeat at home to League One rivals Walsall. Josh Ginnelly and Zeli Ismail scored for Walsall, before Callum Camps pulled a goal back for Rochdale late on.

Ismail was then sent off for Walsall on 86 minutes, but the hosts couldn’t find a equaliser in the closing stages and Walsall held on for the win at the Crown Oil Arena, much to the frustration of Rochdale manager Keith Hill.

“We were 2-0 down and we shouldn’t be. No matter how hard this group is working, we can’t make the mistakes that we’re making,” he said.

“There were a lot of disruptions, it was a slow game and I think the referee played a slow game himself with too many whistles.”

BURY came up short in their match after they were beaten 3-2 by Crawley Town.

Crawley took the lead on four minutes through Jimmy Smith, but second-half goals from Chris Dagnall and Danny Mayor put the Shakers in the lead with 10 minutes to go.

Bury couldn’t hold on to the lead though, as Panutche Camara and Ollie Palmer netted for Crawley to condemn the visitors to defeat.

The defeat leaves Bury 19th in the League Two table, having won just one of their opening five matches so far this season.

BOLTON WANDERERS lost at home in a 3-0 defeat to Sheffield United. Mark Duffy, Kieron Freeman and John Fleck scored for the Blades. Bolton are now third in the Championship after the loss.

WIGAN ATHLETIC came up short away from home after a 1-0 defeat to Queens Park Rangers. Tomer Hemed got the only goal of the game, with Wigan now 12th in the Championship.

MACCLESFIELD TOWN are still searching for their first win of the season after they drew 1-1 at home to Mansfield Town.

Malvind Benning got the opener for Mansfield on 32 minutes, but Harry Smith levelled things up for the Silkmen on the hour mark.

Macclesfield couldn’t find a winner, with the point leaving them second bottom in League Two.
