PARENTS IN TRIBUTE TO CLIFF FALL TEENAGER
FAMILY IS LEFT DEVASTATED BY DEATH OF ‘KIND AND CARING LAD’
TRIBUTES have been paid to a ‘kind and witty’ teenager who died after falling from cliffs in north Wales.
Ben Leonard, from Stockport, was on the Great Orme in Llandudno on Sunday when tragedy struck.
Medics fought desperately to save him, but the 17-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene.
Ben’s family has released a tribute, in which he is described as a ‘wonderful lad.’
Parents Jackie and Dave Leonard added: “Our whole family is totally devastated by the loss of our Ben.
“He was kind, caring, witty and a wonderful lad and we will miss him terribly. We ask that our privacy is respected at this very difficult time.”
Emergency services were called to Marine Drive, on the Great Orme, just before 2pm.
Investigations into how the incident happened have begun. A file has been passed to the coroner. A spokeswoman for North Wales Police said: “Police are working with the coroner to establish the circumstances surrounding the tragic death of a 17-year-old male from the Stockport area.
“Officers were called by the ambulance service shortly after 2pm on Sunday to Marine Drive in Llandudno, where a male was reported to have fallen from the cliffs on the Great Orme.
“He was sadly confirmed dead at the scene.”
According to the M.E.N.’s sister paper, Daily Post, the Coastguard were also called to the headland at around 1.48pm on Sunday by the Welsh Ambulance Service.
A spokesman for Llandudno Coastguard added: “Arriving on scene it was clear our rope rescue skills would not be required, however, we needed to assist with casualty care.
“The team assisted the ambulance paramedic and [air ambulance crews] with casualty care but despite our best efforts we were unable to resuscitate him and he was pronounced deceased at the scene.
“Our thoughts are with his family and friends at this extremely difficult time.”
