Shakers says sorry for behaviour after his two-game ground ban

- FOOTBALL By CHRIS OSTICK

BURY manager Ryan Lowe has apologised after an incident with anti-doping officials saw him handed a two-game stadium ban and miss Saturday’s win over Morecambe.

It is reported Lowe ranted at anti-doping officials when they turned up at the Shakers’ training ground on February 9, when he was then caretaker boss.

The FA have now handed him a misconduct charge and a £1,500 fine, as well as the ban. But it didn’t stop Bury from claiming a 3-2 League Two win at Gigg Lane, with Dominic Telford netting twice.

“Firstly, I would like to apologise for my actions on this occasion because they do not reflect either the person I am nor my respect for the vital work that antidoping officials do in football,” said Lowe in a statement released by the club.

“By acting in an out-ofcharacter fashion I have let myself down, and the only mitigation I can offer is that I am a young manager who is going to make mistakes. This does not justify my behaviour, but it does underline my willingness to learn from what happened and improve as a result.

“As part of that process, I have accepted the punishment that has been imposed.”

Bury went in front after 29 minutes when Adam Thompson tapped home a rebound after Chris Stokes’ header had bounced off the crossbar.

Morecambe replied nine minutes later through Rhys Oates, but Bury took a halftime lead when Danny Mayor crossed in for Telford, who side-footed home.

Telford grabbed Bury’s third four minutes from the end, tapping home a low cross from Neil Danns, with Morcambe netting a late second through Liam Mandeville.

OLDHAM extended their unbeaten run to five league games with an 89th-minute strike from Sam Surridge, which secured a 2-1 win over managerless Crawley at Boundary Park.

The Latics went ahead in the eighth minute when Gevaro Nepomuceno converted Rob Hunt’s cross.

Crawley levelled midway through the first half through Dannie Bulman and were then denied the lead when Daniel Iversen saved Palmer’s penalty after Ashley Nathaniel-George was tripped by Sam Graham.

And they were made to pay by Oldham when Sam Edmundson’s cross was forced in at the far post by a combination of Surridge and defender Mark Connolly.

Struggling MACCLESFIELD slumped to a 3-0 defeat at Crewe, which could have been worse but for a string of fine saves from keeper Kieran O’Hara, who is on loan from United.

Calvin Andrew’s closerange strike just after the interval was enough for ROCHDALE to claim a 1-0 away victory over Coventry in League One.
