A YOUNG man was beaten up and ‘left for dead’ after his brother tried to stop yobs urinating against a neighbour’s house.

Call centre worker Jake Schofield was repeatedly kicked in the head by two men during the vicious early-hours attack.

The 21-year-old was walking home from a night out with his older brother, Nathan, and a friend when they saw two men relieving themselves.

But when Nathan, 27, asked them to stop, the men, thought to be in their 40s, began attacking them.

Nathan was kicked to the ground, while their pal suffered a broken nose after he was punched in the face.

The men, who were also accompanied by a male in his late teens or early 20s, then turned their attentions to Jake.

He was punched to the ground and kicked unconscious in a terrifying assault.

As Jake lay in a pool of blood just yards from his home in Turf Lane, Chadderton, Oldham, the men got in a car driven by a woman and fled the scene. Luckily, a neighbour heard the commotion, saw Jake on the ground and called 999.

Police and paramedics were at the scene within minutes and Jake was taken to Salford Royal Hospital where he was found to have fractures to his skull, cheekbone, nose and hand.

Jake’s sister, Zoe, 25, told the M.E.N. her brother, who had been on a night out in Manchester and had been dropped off by a taxi at the end of the street, is lucky to be alive.

She said: “When we got to hospital he was just a mess. There was blood everywhere – he was unrecognisable. My mum and me just burst into tears when we saw him.

“The doctors have said he was very lucky to get away with the injuries he has.

“When he got to hospital he flat-lined and they had to use a defibrillator to bring him back. He could have been killed.”

Zoe appealed for anyone with information about the attackers to go to the police.

She said: “My brothers have just gone out to have a good night. They are not the type of people who get into trouble or cause fights.

“Whoever did this obviously has no regard for other people’s lives.

“To kick someone in the head when they are on the floor and leave them for dead – you don’t even think about doing that.

“What is the world coming to when this happens? My brother could be dead.”

A police spokeswoman said: “At around 1.20am on Sunday, September 2, police received a report that a man had been assaulted on Turf Lane, Chadderton.

“The man was taken to hospital to be treated for serious head injuries.

“Inquiries into the incident remain ongoing and anyone with information is asked to contact police immediately.”

Anyone with information is asked to call police on 101.
