SHAW BACK AT UNITED AFTER HIS SICKENING WEMBLEY CLASH

- By CHRIS OSTICK

UNITED will assess Luke Shaw today after the sickening blow the defender received on his England return on Saturday night.

Shaw was stretchered off after colliding with Spain’s Dani Carvajal at the start of the second half of the Nations League match with Spain at Wembley.

He received lengthy treatment on the pitch and oxygen, before leaving the field on a stretcher.

The FA have now confirmed he has left the England squad to return to United and will not be in contention for tomorrow’s game against Leicester as a result of the injury he sustained.

Shaw was assessed overnight and throughout the day at St George’s Park before it was decided that he would return to his club.

United will now monitor the leftback, who has had an impressive start to the season, resulting in the England call-up, before making any call on whether he will be available for their Premier League match at Watford on Saturday.

Shaw, who revealed last week that he almost lost his leg after suffering a double fracture while playing for United in 2015, tweeted: “Thank you for all the love and support. I’m doing fine and am in the best hands. I’m a fighter so I will be back soon.”

Earlier in the game Shaw had set up United team-mate Marcus Rashford for the opening goal of the match, only for England to concede twice before the break as Spain secured a 2-1 win.
