Hill furious despite Rochdale comeback

‘I’M DISAPPOINTED WITH ALL OF THE PLAYERS’ SAYS BOSS

- FOOTBALL ROUND-UP By SHELDAN KEAY

ROCHDALE twice came from two goals down to earn a point with a 3-3 draw at Scunthorpe United.

Lee Novak and Ryan Colcough put Scunthorpe 2-0 up at half-time, before Oliver Rathbone pulled a goal back for Rochdale just after the break.

It looked like any comeback hopes would be short lived when Charlie Goode made it 3-1 to Scunthorpe, but another Rathbone goal along with a late equaliser from Matty Gillam ensured Rochdale took a point at Glanford Park.

The result leaves Keith Hill’s side 14th in the League One table, and despite the fightback, the Rochdale boss wasn’t pleased with what he saw.

“I’m disappointed with all of the players, irrespective of what you consider to be a good performance from an individual. If I microscope it, I know deep down that they’ve not done what they’re supposed to do,” he said.

“Regardless of the fightback, regardless of the multiple opportunities on target, we failed to convert those opportunities, and the biggest sin of all is individually not protecting our own goal.”

In League Two, BURY picked up an emphatic victory by beating Grimsby Town 4-0 at Gigg Lane.

Danny Mayor scored in each half to help his team come out on top, while a strike from Will Aimson and an own goal from Danny Collins rounded up the dominant win for the Shakers. It means Bury have now recorded back-to-back league wins.

OLDHAM suffered their first league defeat since the opening day of the season, 1-0 loss at home to Newport County.

Tyreeq Bakinson got the only goal of the game at Boundary Park, but Latics boss Frankie Bunn felt his players gave everything. He said: “I feel that’s the best we’ve played so far this season. I thought tactically we were spot on, for the first time we encountered a team playing three at the back and I just felt comfortable throughout.

“Perhaps a little bit of anxiety, quality at times and choosing wrong decisions was the difference, but I was pleased with the way we kept plugging away.”

The defeat means that Oldham have now dropped to 10th place in the division.

MACCLESFIELD TOWN are still searching for their first win of the league campaign after a 1-0 loss at Stevenage.

Danny Newton netted the only goal in the first half, with the Silkmen remaining second bottom after the defeat.
