A MOTHER has spoken of her heartbreak after claiming a funeral directors failed to properly care for her dead daughter’s body.

Sonia Dore, 60, says Kane Funeral Services in Whalley Range made a series of errors whilst preparing for her late daughter Capri’s funeral.

The 19-year-old, who lived with her mum in Moss Side, died from kidney failure on July 20.

Sonia said she was ‘disgusted’ by alleged errors made by the company, which has several branches across Greater Manchester.

Bosses said they have launched an internal investigation and have refunded the costs of Capri’s funeral as ‘a gesture of good will.’

Sonia said her daughter’s body was due to be collected from Trafford General Hospital on August 27 following a post mortem, and stored until her funeral on August 31.

She claims that when she asked to see her daughter, staff at the funeral directors advised against it, saying Capri ‘was not in a good way.’

Sonia insisted and visited the next day.

“When I saw her body I was absolutely shocked,” she said.

“I was told her body would be refrigerated or embalmed, but it wasn’t.”

Sonia claims her daughter’s funeral, which took place on Friday, August 31, was a ‘disgrace’ and that she has not slept since. She said she paid £3,000 to the firm. “I couldn’t even look at my own daughter at her funeral because of the condition she was in,” Sonia added. “My family and I are so upset. “We were all disgusted. It was a disgrace.”

A spokesman for Kane Funeral Service said bosses were taking the matter ‘very seriously’ and will address Sonia’s complaints.

He said he was unable to comment further as an internal investigation is ongoing, but said the full costs of the funeral have been refunded ‘a gesture of good will.’

“Kane Funeral Services Limited have high standards of care,” the spokesman added.

“Any necessary improvements will be made.”
