THUGS tried to strangle a man with a pair of headphones before punching a terrified woman in the face during a violent home invasion.

Detectives described the gang as ‘callous, cold and calculated,’ warning they were dangerous and needed to be caught.

Police were called to Kingsleigh Road, in Heaton Moor, Stockport, at around 9.30pm on Wednesday to reports of an aggravated burglary.

Four men stormed the house after getting in through the garage.

They tied a man up, then used the cable from a set of headphones to try and strangle him.

The thieves then went upstairs to where a petrified woman was hiding and forced open the door.

Police say they demanded she hand over cash and jewellery, before punching her in the face four times.

The gang then fled from the house with a laptop and watch.

It is believed the men originally pulled up in a black Volkswagen Golf on Bluestone Drive before going through the garden to get to the property.

Detectives investigating the shocking invasion have released CCTV of four men sneaking through a garden and going inside a door. They are urging anyone with information to come forward. Det Sgt Lee Attenborough, from GMP’s Stockport CID, said: “This was a violent and distressing burglary which has now left a family utterly terrified to be in their own home. “The men who did this are callous, cold and calculated – to try and strangle an innocent man with headphones is just incomprehensible. “They are clearly a danger and we need to find them as soon as we can to put them away. “We have spoken to neighbours, carried out forensics and have been reviewing the CCTV footage. “We have several lines of enquiries to follow but we also need to hear from the public. “If there is anything you recognise about this incident, or you suspect someone you know is involved, then do the right thing and report it.” Anyone with any information is asked to call police on 101 or 0161 856 9821 quoting incident number 2112 of September 5. Alternatively, information can be passed on anonymously through Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111. Det Sgt Lee Attenborough
