Zidane says he is keen to return to coaching

- By CIARAN KELLY

ZINEDINE Zidane has vowed to return to management as he continues to be touted as Jose Mourinho’s eventual successor at United.

The Frenchman intended to take a break after guiding Real Madrid to three consecutive Champions League trophies but, just four months into his sabbatical, he has been linked with a move to Old Trafford.

Just as Mourinho’s shadow haunted Louis van Gaal two-and-a-half years ago, the spectre of Zidane looms large any time United have suffered a setback this season. And the 46-year-old is eyeing a return to the touchline.

“I am sure that I will coach again before long,” he said as he attended a match his son Elyaz was playing in.

”This is what I like and what I have done all my life.”

United made their worst start to a league season in 26 years, conceding eight goals in the process, but got back to winning ways with a 2-0 win at Burnley last week.

Ed Woodward, the club’s executive vice-chairman, only handed Mourinho a new two-year deal in January and the United manager has been backed by club chiefs to build on that win at Turf Moor and the Reds’ first-half display against Spurs.

And the club have been keen to distance themselves from those reports linking them with Zidane.

“Why would we discuss Zidane when there is no job available?” a United source previously said.
