THE Slow Readers Club will headline the music line-up at Manchester Food and Drink Festival – with a free show on the CityLife stage.

The Manchester band released their third album Build A Tower and embarked on their biggest tour to date earlier this year, selling out Manchester Cathedral in a matter of hours.

Now the four-piece are treating fans to a free performance in Albert Square, topping a bill curated by CityLife on October 4.

The band will be performing their new acoustic EP For All Here to Observe live and in full at the special session. The six-track EP is out today and features reinterpretations of songs spanning their entire career, from latest single Supernatural to Block Out the Sun, from their self-titled 2011 debut and I Saw A Ghost, from 2015’s Cavalcade.

Brothers Aaron and Kurtis Starkie and bandmates Jim Ryan and David Whitworth have won over a fiercely loyal fanbase with their dark, incisive indie electro and exhilarating live shows.

The last few years have seen them support James, The Charlatans and The Jesus and Mary Chain, as well as selling out venues including the O2 Ritz and Albert Hall in their own right, and winning a landslide vote to be named Best Breakthrough Act at the M.E.N’s CityLife Awards in January.

The CityLife takeover at the festival on October 4 will also feature a set from singer-songwriter Josh Goddard.

Having cut his teeth on the city’s gig circuit as part of The Quangos and Lucky T. Jackson, the Mancunian troubadour recently released his first solo track Sunday Sun, showcasing a sound fusing pop, soul and R&B.

CityLife’s own Guy Keeble will then be taking over the decks for a DJ set.

The gig is free to attend and takes place inside the festival bar marquee, which has a capacity of around 700.

Entry is on a first come, first served basis so fans are advised to arrive in plenty of time to stake out a good spot.

There’s an impressive music line-up across the rest of the 11-day festival too, with acts including I Am Kloot’s John Bramwell, Inspiral Carpets star Clint Boon and The Smiths’ Mike Joyce between September 27 and October 7.
