A MAN is fighting for his life in hospital after he was shot through a door.

Police say a gunman fired at a house in Cheetham Hill on Thursday evening.

The victim was injured after two bullets went through a door at the back of a house.

Emergency services were scrambled to Ermington Drive at around 9.35pm.

When police arrived, a 21-year-old man had already been taken to hospital by paramedics.

A police spokesman said the victim remained in hospital in a lifethreatening condition on Friday afternoon.

An investigation has been launched and enquiries are ongoing. No arrests have been made. Residents said they heard gunshots at around 9.30pm.

Police cars and ambulance vehicles arrived shortly after, they said.

A large part of Ermington Drive was still cordoned off on Friday morning.

A row of six townhouses were taped off and well as a stretch of pavement.

Officers stood guard as forensics teams carried out their enquiries.

One house appeared to have its front window boarded up.

There were three or four officers standing guard at the cordon.

A witness said: “I looked out of the window and could see four police cars and ambulances. A next door neighbour was shouting.

“A policeman was knocking on doors. He said there had been a gun shooting and there had been injuries.

“There was a gun shot around 9.30pm, there was another one a little bit later. A window was smashed in.

“There is always trouble around here.”

Police were directing traffic and people on foot away from the scene on Friday afternoon.
