SCHOOLS in Salford and Trafford have been put on alert after reports of two attempted child abductions.

In one case a child was offered sweets by a woman to try and lure them into a vehicle.

All secondary and primary schools in Salford have received an email from the council after an incident earlier this week in Ordsall.

It says police have made them aware of an incident in Ordsall where a couple attempted to coax two children into a white vehicle.

They were approached, it is believed by a man and woman, near Ordsall Park, on Monday between 6.30pm and 8pm.

St John’s Primary School in Irlams o’th’ Height, Salford, sent out its own letter to parents after the incident.

It says: “We have had notification from our PCSO that a white van is circulating the Salford area asking children if they want a lift. Please be extra vigilant.”

A Facebook user posted about the Salford attempted abduction on Monday: “My grandaughter has been approached near Ordsall Park by a lady in a white car. She asked her to get in the car and she would buy some sweets and one of her friends was asked yesterday by the same woman.”

After a similar incident in Trafford a letter was sent out to parents of pupils at a primary school.

A parent posted on an Urmston Facebook group yesterday that she had received an alert from her child’s school.

It said: “This morning two Year 6 boys were approached on their way to school near the Co-op on Woodsend Roadby by a white male wearing a black clothing and a black hat who tried to get them to get into a white van. The police have been informed.”

That incident was close to Acre Hall Primary School in Urmston.

The M.E.N. has approached Greater Manchester Police for comment.
