Hill aiming for pitch perfect 90 minutes

- FOOTBALL ROUND-UP By SHELDAN KEAY

ROCHDALE manager Keith Hill says his team need to improve in some areas ahead of their home game against Gillingham today.

Rochdale are 14th in the League One table heading into the match, one place above Gillingham, and Hill has explained what his side need to work on.

“We’ve just got to tidy up on one or two things during the week in training to make sure that we get it right with the small detail on Saturdays because, from a defensive point of view, it’s not reflecting how good the defenders we’ve got at this football club are,” he said.

“The amount of goals we’ve conceded through individual mistakes is a shame for the boys, because we’re better than the mistakes that we’re making.

“I’ve seen really good things from this group of players but, for me, the only disappointment is what we are seeing isn’t being reflected over 90 minutes. I want the perfect 90 minutes.”

In League Two, OLDHAM ATHLETIC will try to return to winning ways when they make the trip to Blundell Park to face Grimsby Town.

Latics head into the match on the back of their 1-0 home defeat to Newport County last week, and manager Frankie Bunn admits he has mixed things up a bit in the build-up to the game.

“We look refreshed, we’ve come off the pace during the week in training and concentrated on doing some more work technically, tactically and also in the gym, but everyone looks in good spirits,” he said.

“We’ve had a good six weeks and we’ve had Saturday, Tuesday throughout a number of those weeks, so it was time to ease off physically and rest mentally which worked because they have been very bright.”

BURY face an away game as they make the trip down south to play Swindon Town at the County Ground.

The Shakers head into the game on the back of a dominant 4-0 win at home to Grimsby last weekend, leaving them 21st in the League Two table. Swindon are in seventh place.

MACCLESFIELD TOWN will again go in search for their first win of the league campaign when they host Lincoln City at the Moss Rose.

The Silkmen are second bottom after no wins from seven games, while Lincoln are top of the table.

In the Championship, BOLTON WANDERERS will try to put a difficult week behind them when they host Queens Park Rangers. Bolton are in eighth place in the table, but QPR have struggled and are third from bottom.

WIGAN ATHLETIC are away from home, as they head to Brentford.

Wigan are in 10th place, with opponent’s Brentford in fifth after a good start to the campaign.
