40,000 complaints about potholes
COMPLAINTS about potholes rocketed by a whopping 70 per cent across Greater Manchester last year as councils slashed £8m from their day-to-day road repair budgets.
A Freedom of Information request by the Federation of Small Businesses [FSB] shows nearly 40,000 complaints about potholes and damaged roads were received by town halls across the region last year – up from 22,800 – with numbers rising in all 10 boroughs.
At the same time, budgets for road repairs fell by more than a quarter, with most councils spending less than they did a year earlier.
As part of their request, the FSB asked each of the 10 Greater Manchester authorities the name of the road which attracted the most complaints about potholes.
These are the most complained about roads for potholes across Greater Manchester: Bolton: Chorley Old Road Bury: Nuttall Lane Ramsbottom
Oldham: Chadderton Park Road in Chadderton
Tameside: Huddersfield Road in Stalybridge
Stockport: Finney Lane in Heald Green
Trafford: South Downs Road in Bowdon Wigan: A580 East Lancs Road Manchester and Salford councils were unable to provide the name of the road most complained about, while Rochdale in would only narrow it down to a postcode, M24.
But in the interest of fairness, the M.E.N. and its readers have suggested roads for each of these three reluctant boroughs.
Manchester: We featured Gladeside Road in Wythenshawe when the residents dubbed it ‘the most potholed road in Greater Manchester.’ The potholes were repaired after our story was published.
Rochdale: Our Rochdale Observer Facebook page members suggested Manchester Road among others. Cumberland Road is also pretty bad.
Salford: Bury New Road
