Man, 65, dies after crash
MERCEDES DRIVER SUFFERED ‘MEDICAL EPISODE’ AND DIES IN HOSPITAL
A MAN has died after a crash. A silver Mercedes Benz C Class and silver Volkswagen Transporter were involved in the collision in Heywood, near Rochdale.
The Mercedes driver turned left from Newhouse Road onto Walton Street before the incident.
Emergency crews were called to the scene, around 500 metres south of Heywood town centre, and a 65-yearold man who had been at the wheel of the Mercedes was taken to hospital.
Officers said he suffered a medical episode and sadly later died in hospital.
It’s not yet clear if the man took ill before or after the collision.
The driver of the Volkswagen was not injured and remained at the scene to speak to police.
No arrests have been made but officers are appealing for witnesses.
Police Sergeant Darren Hancock, of GMP’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “We have specialist officers who are doing all they can support the man’s family at this incredibly difficult time.
“My thoughts are very much with them.
“Our investigation to establish the full circumstances that led to this collision remains ongoing.
“I would ask anyone that may have seen either car in the area prior to the collision to get in touch.
