POGBA ‘WILL NEVER CAPTAIN UNITED AGAIN’

POGBA’S UNITED FUTURE IN DOUBT AS JOSE TELLS PLAYERS HE WON’T PICK HIM AS CAPTAIN

- By SAMUEL LUCKHURST

JOSE Mourinho has stripped Paul Pogba of the vice-captaincy at United.

The Reds boss, who last night watched his side crash out of the Carabao Cup to Championship side Derby on penalties, is understood to have told the midfielder – and the United squad – the Frenchman will not skipper the club again after his weekend criticism of the lack of attacking football in the draw with Wolves.

Pogba was one of five players rested by Mourinho last night, but he was sitting in a hospitality box at Old Trafford for the game.

“The only truth is that I made the decision of Paul not to be the second captain anymore,” Mourinho said. “But no fall-out. No problems at all.

“The same person that decides Paul is not second captain anymore was exactly the same person that decides that Paul was the second captain, myself.

“I am the manager, I can make these decisions, no fall-out at all, no problems at all, just one decision that I don’t have to explain.”

The captaincy decision has plunged Pogba’s Old Trafford future into greater doubt.

The 25-year-old and Mourinho have endured a fraught relationship and the midfielder appeared to question the manager’s tactics after the 1-1 draw with Wolves on Saturday.

“We are at home and we should play much better against Wolves,” Pogba said. “When we are at home we should attack, attack, attack. We are here to attack. I think teams are scared when they see Man United attacking and attacking.”
