I cried after twins remark, says Christine
CHRISTINE McGuinness says she was reduced to tears after a woman made a complaint about her autistic twins at a play centre. The wife of Bolton comic Paddy McGuinness said she was stunned to overhear a fellow visitor complaining about the noises her children were making.
Leo and Penelope, five, were having a brilliant time playing in an environment they would usually find challenging because of the developmental disorder - and Christine was pleased to see their joy and hear them squealing with excitement.
But she was crushed to overhear the woman make the comments about them being too noisy.
She told the Loose Women on ITV: “I overheard a lady complaining about the sounds they were making, saying it hurt her ears. “I cried.” Christine, a guest star on the hit ITVBe reality show The Real Housewives of Cheshire , is supporting Autism Hour during the week of October 6, which will see participating shops turn down music and other noise, dimming lighting that can be overwhelming for autistic people and helping the public understand autism by sharing information with their customers.
Speaking about her children, the proud mum told the panel: “I feel they don’t need fixing.
“I feel they’re absolutely amazing the way they are.”
Christine, who is also mum to twoyear-old Felicity, hosted the first annual Twinkle Ball with Paddy in aid of the National Autistic Society.
The ball, which raised more than £100,000, was held following the diagnosis of the couple’s twins with autism last year and they hope it will become an annual event.
