Drug dealers target new students with ‘business cards’

POLICE IN WARNING TO UNIVERSITY FRESHERS AFTER SUSPECT ARRESTED

STUDENTS have been warned to watch out for brazen drug dealers offering out ‘business cards.’

The alert comes after police arrested a suspected drug dealer carrying a mobile phone and cards brandished with the name ‘Milo’ and a phone number.

Officers report that the suspect gave his occupation as ‘selfemployed.’ But police have taken to social media to point out that selfemployment as a drug dealer is ‘not a viable career choice’ – even quipping that the arrested man was ‘not a candidate for Dragon’s Den.’

Residents said they feared unscrupulous criminals were attempting to target Freshers as they started university.

Cards emblazoned with various phone numbers, names and business hours were found scattered across the streets of Fallowfield last autumn.

Students writing on social media reported that they had been approached along a 50-metre stretch opposite to the main entrance to Owens Park halls of residence. Free lighters were also handed out to young students, new to the area.

One local claimed some dealers have even dished out ‘free weed samples’ along with their phone number.

And one card, which was discovered by a resident in 2015, even appeared to have a sample of cannabis attached in a small clear plastic pouch.

At the time, police said they knew criminals pursue ‘potentially vulnerable’ students, and were working to crack down on dealing in the area.

The latest incident was reported by officers on the GMP Chorlton and Didsbury Facebook page.

They wrote: “Oh ‘Milo,’ when you were arrested yesterday and asked what your occupation was and you said Self Employed ... I feel I need to give you some advice ... Being ‘self employed’ as a Drug Dealer is not a viable career choice! Also, these are not exactly the type of business cards you want to have found in your possession with the mobile phone in your pocket!

“Students we advise you not to accept these ‘business cards’ and report when necessary!
