First frost could be on its way...

-

BRACE yourselves - the first frost could be landing on Greater Manchester this weekend.

Marking once and for all the end of a sizzling summer, Met Office forecasters have warned we are due for an early taste of winter.

Icy conditions blowing in from the Arctic are heralding snow in Scotland and northern parts of England.

And although Greater Manchester will avoid the snow, forecasters predict Thursday’s balmy highs will be a distant memory this weekend.

The temperature was due to hit a low of 6C today, with the midday mercury hovering around 12 degrees on both days of this weekend.

And although the strong winds set to blast some coastal areas should steer clear of this region, there is also frost forecast for tomorrow, especially in more rural areas.

Nicola Maxey, Met Office spokeswoman, said: “It is going to turn colder towards the weekend with a northerly flow of Arctic air bringing temperatures down compared to earlier in the week.

She added: “It will feel colder and we could see some patchy frosts first thing, daytime temperatures will reach the mid-teens at best and it will feel colder in the north.

“It will stay cooler into Sunday and after some morning fog there is the likelihood of sunny spells.”

Gale-force winds could also affect northern areas.
