Plans backed for industrial estate and drive-thru cafe
A PUB RESTAURANT ALSO INCLUDED IN SCHEME FOR FORMER CAR PARK
A NEW industrial estate with a drivethru cafe and pub restaurant will be built after it was given the go-ahead by planning bosses.
The development on land to the west of Greengate in Chadderton, Oldham, also includes three industrial units, which could be used for business, general industrial work or storage and distribution. The site was formerly occupied by defence company BAE Systems PLC and used as car parking.
The developer says the new project should create additional space for businesses to start, expand and bring new jobs, which will benefit local people and contribute to the economic growth of the area.
It is a plan submitted by the Royal London Mutual Insurance Society Ltd.
As part of the site, there would be dedicated staff and visitor parking for a total of 199 vehicles including 20 dedicated disabled spaces, together with nine motorcycle spaces and provision for at least 21 secure cycle parking spaces.
The applicant says that ‘given the nature of the proposed employment units’ they would need to operate 24 hours a day 365 days a year without restriction.
They add that the opening hours of the pub restaurant and drive-thru are not yet known and will depend on which business opts to take them over, but ‘flexible opening times’ will be required to ensure that these facilities are ‘attractive’ to the market
A design and access statement submitted to planning chiefs by Fletcher Rae says the new development will make a ‘positive contribution’ to the surrounding area of Chadderton.
They say it is a sustainable location, easily accessible by bus and railway, and would result in an ‘environmental benefit.’
“The proposals can be delivered without having an adverse effect on the landscape or surrounding environment or ecological interests, and the economic benefits of the proposal are significant,” the report adds.
It was approved unanimously without debate by members of Oldham’s planning committee.
